Courier New Media
This typography project was created for the 36 Days of Type event that takes place on Instagram each year. Artists, designers and illustrators are invited to create a new character each day, with a goal of creating an entire alphabet in just over a month.
I have an interest in new media, especially glitch and analogue effects, so I decided to explore that idea by deconstructing each letter of Courier New Regular.
I challenged myself to distort each letter without rendering them completely illegible, and to use an appropriate number of methods and effects so that I would have an end selection of images that looked related, yet distinct.
This project was created entirely on a smartphone, with a number of photo editing apps dedicated to glitch media. I wanted to avoid high resolution images, or any smooth edges, as lo-fi distortion was the end result.
